Heya all, I'm still here. with the lack of entries you probably can figure i've been rather busy. Caught a musical on sat, wicked and it was amazing! firstly, the whole interior design of the theatre was gorgeous, gave me the atas feeling like i was watching a real opera (which i was anyway). unfortunately, being a poor student, i chose the cheapest ticket and was seated at the balcony which was kinda far but managed to catch the "big picture" of the musical. it was great nonetheless, the plot was really smart. its about the evil witch from the wonderful wizard of oz, a different perspective, is she really evil? is evil a result of nature or nurture? sounds complex isnt it, but it watching it was definitely enjoyable. met more singaporeans over the weekend and hung out with them mostly.
had orientation starting on Sunday. the international one stressed me out because of all the paper work that is required especially for my fieldwork. bleah, the woes of being an international student, definitely miss my privileged years back home.
Monday's orientation was a rather challenging experience for me. walked in, i looked at the stats, 1% international students and i definitely feel so alone. tried to mix in with this group of americans but it was kinda hard as they were fresh graduates and came from around the same region so they have endless topics to talk about while i just sat and listened. i figured people werent exactly as interested in where i come from and were more concerned about finding similar friends whom they can click with.
Today, we went through out course work and i'm excited! despite it being quite a heavy work load. i was trying so hard to absorb whatever was being said and having that increased knowledge made me feel smart. haha, what a geek isnt it. guess my biggest struggle would be speaking up. i tend to just sit at the back in class and hide but i cant now since class participation is 20%. argh, time to speak up!
I got my placement and guess what, i'll be working with people living with HIV/AIDs. i dont know whether to be excited or not. my advisor has assured me that it would be 99.99% different experience from what i had in Singapore which i do agree but i was kinda hoping to go into a different field, a different clientele. oh well, will see how it goes, at least i'll be more confident but there may be higher expectations from me since i'm experienced. am i thinking too much?
alright, thats a brief update of my weekend and the last two days. :) i can see myself becoming a geek the next few months but i promise i'll update as much as i can!! cheers!
*updated: oh i forgot to mention, especially for mr chong! my first day's orientation ended at a pub in school with free flow of beer for one hour! and they have alllllll sorts of beerrrrr... *hic..
